After extensively touring her debut album ‘I Love You Like A Brother’ around the world, I expected Alex Lahey to take some time off. But apparently I was wrong. The Melbourne singer-songwriter has jumped straight into it with the announcement of her sophomore record ‘The Best Of Luck Club’ which is set to start taking listeners on May 17. The first single ‘Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself’ is a bold and definitive taste of what is to come as it captures her signature sound which you’ve come to know and love whilst also throwing in an unforeseen twist. This track hears her throwing in a saxophone solo before the final verse. It really adds a whole different element to the song and separates it completely from what you expected. It slightly elevates it to another level of cinematic rock that her vivid and unique storytelling has always crafted. Written as a reminder to not be so hard on yourself during hard times she reconfirms that it is okay to have a bad day and it’s okay to have negative thoughts sometimes but to know that things get better and you will be better. “You haven’t had a day off in weeks. Your voice is shaking when you speak. It might not be my place to help but don’t be so hard on yourself”. It really has this uplifting and grad feel to it which will perfectly compliment her already strong live show.
