SINGLE REVIEW: Gretta Ray – Heartbreak Baby

Gretta Ray is a heartbreak baby and she wants you to know all about it on her deliciously infectious new single. “Heartbreak Baby” follows the recent deeply reflective track “Dear Seventeen” which both come as the exciting first previews of her forthcoming sophomore album “Positive Spin”, out August 18.

“Heartbreak Baby” serves as the BIG pop moment. It’s the “Bigger Than Me” of this era, and comes with a Grease inspired music video that is riddled with easter eggs of what’s to come. With a mix of moody and bright synths, and the addition of guitars, she delivers this anthemic moment that immediately feels like a signature Gretta Ray track. Especially with the bridge it feels very Gretta coded, and when she sings “Good luck finding someone one who’s gonna love” there is a little chill that goes down your spine as it’s such a strong and special moment in the song.

The song is a celebration of all the emotions that come with heartbreak. Usually you find yourself shying away from embracing the heaviness, but Gretta turns it into an armour and something we should celebrate. It’s something most of us will experience in our life time, and it ultimately makes us stronger, so why notified the empowerment within the moment. “Cause I am a heartbreak baby. No one is more equipped than me at tending to wounds that tend to bleed, annually, can’t you see, that I am a heartbreak baby” she sings during the anthemic chorus.

Gretta Ray will be taking “Positive Spin” on the road throughout Australia in September and October for her “The Big Pop Show” tour. And from the title itself, you can already tell that this show is gonna be HUGE so you won’t want to miss seeing Gretta play her biggest headline shows yet.
