SINGLE REVIEW: Dua Lipa – Dance The Night

This Barbie is making bops! Dua Lipa is back in her 80’s disco-pop territory with the lead single for the forthcoming Barbie movie soundtrack which will be unveiled in its entirety on July 21. “Dance The Night” feels deeply rooted in the “Future Nostalgia” era with its slick synths and infectious pop hook.

Produced by Mark Ronson, this track is ultimately a feel good pop song that is cinematic and doesn’t hold back from just being fun. Sometimes we do find artists are taking pop music so seriously, which is great and there is space for that, but it’s also nice to bring back 2000’s pop that is good 24/7 and can immediately get you dancing and smiling. From the very first listen Dua will have you captivated and ready to dance the night away with her over and over again.

Tapping into the feel-good element, this track is all about having a fun night out with your friends and just feeling good even if things aren’t totally okay in that moment. We all need an escape, and this song is pop escapism at its finest. “Watch me dance, dance the night away. My hеart could be burnin’, but you won’t see it on my face. Watch me dancе, dance the night away. I’ll still keep the party runnin’, not one hair out of place” she sings.

This is only the first taste of what’s to come from the Barbie soundtrack, and let’s just say that Mark Ronson has got us very excited for what might be the best pop album of the year.
