SINGLE REVIEW: Dom Dolla feat. Nelly Furtado – Eat Your Man

2023 is the year of the Nelly Furtado comeback, and I couldn’t be more excited. It all started over New Years when the Canadian icon headlined Beyond The Valley in Victoria, and since then she’s been laying low and preparing new music for what will be an undeniable return. The first taste of what’s to come is a dance collaboration with Australian producer Dom Dolla, who is on top of his game at the moment following selling out his two biggest Melbourne headline shows for later this year.

‘Eat Your Man’ is a hard-hitting electronic song that hears Nelly Furtado in a way you’ve never heard her before. The lyrically repetitive track is conceptual and confident with this dark and satirical delivery that is elevated by Dom’s production. Immediately coming out of the gate with “I’ll eat your man, devour him whole. Lickin’ my fingers, I’m in control”, she sets the tone in this cinematic world. With little references to some of her greatest hits sprinkled throughout the track, it also feels like a perfect comeback as she cements her feet on the ground again as a performer and a musician.

– “Fly like a bird, I’m takin’ it home” – ‘I’m Like A Bird’

– “I say it right, now do what I say” – ‘Say It Right’

– “I’ll eat your man” – ‘Maneater’

Taking this track to new heights, Dom’s production is unpredictable in the best way. Just when you think you know where the drop is going to come in, or what the structure may be, he switches it up and keep its fresh. It’s an entertaining listen from start to finish, and one you know you will hear in every club and at every festival for the next 12 months, and you won’t be mad about it.
