Niall Horan is now in his third album era, and he is sounding more confident and reassured than ever before. “The Show” is a punchy 10 track collection of songs that celebrates him as a songwriter and musician. The songs are extremely well-written, and have an anthemic tone to them that will explode in his upcoming arena world tour which reaches Australia in April and May next year.
But what are 5 songs on “The Show” that you must listen to? We break it down for you below.
- Heaven
“Heaven” was the lead single for “The Show” and it perfectly sets the tone from the sonical and lyrical explorations that occur on this record. It’s bold, anthemic, and is an arena-ready closing song for his live show with confetti ready to fill the sky during the final chorus. It’s a beautiful love song through and through, and explores the magnetic pull you feel for them where you will do anything just to stay in their orbit.
Favourite lyric: “I believe, I believe I could die in your kiss. No, it doesn’t get, doesn’t get better than, better than this”.
2. If You Leave Me
Continuing the exploration of devotion and the urge and need to stay in their lovers orbit no matter what, “If You Leave Me” describes how he would feel if they ever left him. There is a real understated groove interpolated in this track with the guitar riff that will have you immediately hooked.
Favourite lyric: “If you leave me, Oh, I think that I just might lose it completely”.
3. Never Grow Up
Okay by now you are probably catching on that this is a very romantic record – sorry to the “Heartbreak Weather” fans out there – but Niall is in a really happy place right now. And on “Never Grow Up” he hopes that their spark never dimmers, and the romance never dies as he reminisces on the moments that brought him and his girlfriend to where they are now. A lot of these songs are subtly inspired by 70’s and 80’s pop-rock, and this track interpolates some smooth harmonies and retrospective synths.
Favourite lyric: “I hope we still dance like we’re fallin’ in love. Hope we still drink like we’re back in the pub. Hope we grow old, but we never grow up”.
4. Save My Life
One Direction fans always say how some of the members saved their life, and it’s a phrase that gets thrown around in fandoms all of the time. Niall has immortalised the ideology that someone could save your life in a song, and in particular, his girlfriend. It’s a punchy and polished pop track that is all about someone helping you see the light again after feeling a darkness. There is also a great saxophone solo that is very welcomed.
Favourite lyric: “Ever since you walked in I’m seein’ a new light”
5. On A Night Like Tonight
“On A Night Like Tonight” in the centrepiece of the nostalgia this record embodies. It balances a grit with an immaculate polish that will have you slow dancing under a disco ball.
Favourite lyric: “Wantin’ your summer skin pressed on mine”
