SINGLE REVIEW: Madilyn Bailey – Tattoos & Therapy

We all have vices for how we cope with things. Most are unhealthy and can be bad for you over time, but what time if we were all proactive and had healthy vices? That’s a concept that I could be down for, and viral singer-songwriter Madilyn Bailey has written a song that embraces that sentiment.

“Tattoos & Therapy” is her boldest pop song to date and has this anthemic energy that pulsates throughout out the 2 and a half minute duration. There’s a quirky-pop tone to her delivery reminiscent of early Marina & The Diamonds (think “Electra Heart” era) meets Ava Max, and while it is very theatrical leaning, there’s still an honest heart at its centre.

Reflecting on the idea of replacing all of her bad vices with more positive ones like tattoos and therapy, she’s truly written an anthem for the self-aware generation while also still delivering an absolute bop. “I’ve got this self destructive energy. Text my ex and regret it immediately. End up in somebody’s bed and wake up hating me. Instead I’ll get tattoos and therapy” she sings during the pulsating chorus.
