SINGLE REVIEW: Mahalia feat. JoJo – Cheat

“Once a cheat always a cheat” Mahalia declares in the opening moments of her new single “Cheat”, and the girl ain’t wrong. The British singer-songwriter is preparing the release of her sophomore studio album “IRL” on July 14, and it promises to be an honest and ear-worm hook filled body of work. Following the release of lead single “Terms and Conditions”, she has teamed up with icon JoJo for an honest and smooth track.

“Cheat” is the anthem for anyone who has ever been cheated on. This is your song. It’s all about wanting to give them a second chance and prove you wrong, but also knowing that they will never change and that you deserve better. “Tell me that girl is just a friend. Make me believe in you and then. You do it again, you hurt me again and again. Once a cheat, always a cheat, yeah. That’s why I don’t believe in what you’re saying to me, uh, no, no, no, no” they sing.

The RNB track is intertwined with a pop-centric hook that will live in your head rent free. It’s catchy, smooth, honest, and ultimately a handbook for anyone dealing with being cheated on.
