SINGLE REVIEW: Charlotte Lawrence – Boys Like You

I love hearing queer pop songs becoming front and centre in the spotlight, and Charlotte Lawrence’s new track “Boys Like You” is an important one to note right now. It’s an honest exploration of her queer experience, and it’s one that a lot of queer people can relate to.

I can’t help it, I like girls like you. But you like boys and boys like you” she sings during the smooth chorus as she notes that she continually keeps falling for straight girls and romanticising the “what if” of them being together.  A lot of relatable feelings come into play with lyrics like “Tryin’ not to want you has me wantin’ you more” and “We don’t kiss, we just share a spliff. And you make it hard to ignore you” which reflect the conflicting thoughts that come into play during these situations.

The chilled-out indie pop track has a guitar and drum led production that complements the dreamy  lyricism and will have you immediately drawn into her vivid storytelling. The singalong ready hook is anthemic whilst being completely honest and direct. It’s a must add to your playlist this week.
