SINGLE REVIEW: Eilish Gilligan – Involved You

It was about time we entered a new Eilish Gilligan era, and most importantly, her debut album one no less. It’s been two years since she released her EP “First One To Leave The Party”, and the Melbourne based singer, songwriter and producer has welcomed listeners back to her theatrical alt-pop stylings with “Involved You”. The lead single from her forthcoming debut album is an introspective and piercing track that captures the emotional intensity of her previous work, with a bold futuristic perspective within her production. Sonically reminiscent of “Patterns”, and “Someone Else”, she takes those foundations and brings a multiplied euphoric approach to the chorus.

Written about accidentally falling into the villain role in a relationship, she reflects on how and why she finds herself in that position, and also embraces that she is there. “When did I choose it. When did my mind change so instantly. When does the part start where I get to love you normally” she questions. Her lyricism has always been super strong and visual, and this song showcases that through an even more crystallised introspective lens.

“Involved You” is Eilish Gilligan’s biggest pop track to-date. It’s shows a growth in her artistry, and explodes with a confidence that has come from playing live over the years, as well as the time she’s given from releasing music to really work on the impact she wants this new music to have. The confidence is also translated in the accompanying music video which sees her giving us some choreography which we are going to have to learn now to perform at her next live show.

If you’re in Melbourne you can catch Eilish Gilligan live at The Merri Creek Tavern on Friday July 21 for an exclusive acoustic show. Tickets are available HERE.
