SINGLE REVIEW: G FLIP – The Worst Person Alive

Following the romantic and vulnerable recent single “Be Your Man”, G FLIP has announced the release of their highly anticipated sophomore album “DRUMMER” out August 11. To coincide with the announcement they’ve also dropped the anthemic break-up track “The Worst Person Alive”, which shows a duality to their songwriting.

This song is all about the blame, the hurt, and the guilt someone puts on the other person during a breakup to try feel better themselves. Sometimes it’s easier to build someone up as a villain instead of accepting that the relationship just didn’t work, or that as two people you weren’t meant to be. “You used to call me baby, come over. Now I’m the worst person alive. Those nights we couldn’t get any closer. Now when I see you out, you don’t even say hi” they sing during the chorus before proclaiming “last year I was the love of your life. Now I’m the worst person alive”. No matter how much you try to show empathy, they will throw it back in your face. “And I want you to be happy cause that’s what you deserve. If you want me to be unhappy, well, that just fucking hurts”. But there comes a time where you start believing the horrible things you hear, and G FLIP shows that with their songwriting as they start flipping the lyrics and singing “I’m the worst person alive” in the bridge and final chorus.

Accompanied by a pop-rock production, the song captures the angst of the lyrics and brings an anthemic tone to the forefront while also shadowing it with a needed vulnerability. Breaking someone’s heart can make you feel like the worst person alive, and it’s not nice. This song will bring you a little comfort if you find yourself in a similar situation. And the chorus is a great one to scream out if you’re alone and in your feelings. Don’t ask me how I know that.
