The Barbie movie soundtrack is truly shaping up to be the album of the year, and let’s be honest, none of us saw that coming. Following singles by Dua Lipa, Pink Pantheress, Karol G and Nicki Minaj & Ice Spice, they have just dropped what I think is the best track from the soundtrack so-far. 

“Speed Drive” by Charli XCX is a lush hyper-pop moment that is full of playful energy, and so infectiously produced that it will be stuck in your head forever. The 1 minute 58 second track is fast-paced and at full throttle for the full duration. It doesn’t slow down at all, and takes the listener on this unforgettable blurry-pop adventure. 

Incorporating a sample of “Hey Mickey” in the chorus which she brings into the Barbie realm as “Ah-ah, Barbie, you’re so fine, you’re so fine you blow my mind. Jump into the driver’s seat and put it into speed drive”, she keeps the tone in a fun manner. It’s a song that you can already imagine playing in every gay club across the world, and to be honest, they probably already are.

“Speed Drive” is a pure boost of serotonin, and is a reminder that pop music can be just playful fun sometimes and doesn’t need to be taken too seriously.
