Some artists just know how to mesmerise you in the most organic and authentic way possible, and Noah Cyrus confirmed herself one of those artists while in Australia on her debut headline visit. The American singer-songwriter kicked off proceedings in Sydney with a sold out show at the Metro Theatre. The 90 minute intimate affair was a warm showcase of raw talent, storytelling and captivating energy.
With the crowd at full capacity, the screams were deafening as she walked out onto the stage in a stunning grey dress for opening songs “Noah (Stand Still)” and “Mr Perocet”. With the applause and screams loud, she took a moment to look around and take in the radiating love the crowd were giving her. “Unfinished” was an early highlight that set the vulnerable and beautiful tone the rest of the set held highly. And the singalongs came in thick and fast with “Liar”, “All Three”, “Every Beginning Ends” and “Again” leading the way.
This show was uniquely special as it was the first time Noah got to share a stage with her collaborator PJ Harding since the pandemic. Following his role on opening duties, she brought the talented singer, songwriter, and producer out for an acoustic set of “Dear August”, “Cannonball”, “You Belong To Somebody Else”, “The Best Of You” and “The Worst Of You”. This was a special celebration of their collaborations and felt like a moment both artists will cherish for a long time to come.
With the sold out status of the show, the venue was warm and very packed, so as we reached the third quarter a few fans started passing out. Noah immediately stopped each song and gave the security and paramedics time to get those fans out, and it was a very impressive quick reaction time.”I Got So High That I Saw Jesus”, “Loretta’s Song”, “I Burned LA Down” and “Hardest Part” closed out the show, and it felt like a really big pinnacle moment. Obviously an encore was chanted (and expected), and she returned for the big singalong stylings of “July”, “Lonely”, “Make Me (Cry), and “The End Of Everything”. She admitted to the crowd during “July” that she still doesn’t know how to whistle and relied on PJ Harding on knowing how to whistle for the hook.
The calming nature of Noah Cyrus’ show was genuine perfection. Her vocals were like honey and had these beautiful intricacies in her tone. It felt like a giant warm hug, and I could easily watch that show over and over again and still remain in complete awe.
