Lauv is beginning a whole new journey as an artist and as a human. Recently coming out as queer, the singer-songwriter has been documenting his thoughts on socials as he navigates this important self-discovery time in a true “how I’m feeling” fashion. As he puts the final touches on his upcoming record, he’s dropped the first single which perfectly sums up the liberating queer realisations he’s having.
“Love U Like That” is a song about celebrating who you are and not allowing society or anyone else’s thoughts or ideas influence you. It’s about finally being confident in your own skin and owning every part of that journey. It feels like an intimate diary page that he’s transformed into a song, and is a love song to himself as much as it is about falling for someone else. “Used to judge myself, now I don’t care ’cause, hey, I love you like that. Everything you do just turns me on” he sings during the chorus.
Soaked in dark indie-pop synths and beats, this track feels like early Lauv music (think “i met you when I was 18.” era) meets recent LANY. There’s a euphoric lightness that beautifully intertwines with an emotional darkness which creates for a really simple but memorable moment from Lauv.
Lauv is returning to Australia this October for a massive national tour. Shows in Perth, Sydney, and Melbourne are sold out, but there are limited tickets still available in Brisbane. Full ticketing info is HERE.
