Songs You Should Listen To This Week – Olivia Rodrigo, Sigrid, Fred again.., COBRAH + more

Olivia Rodrigo – bad idea right?

Following the release of “Vampire”, Olivia Rodrigo is turning up the volume and serving you the angsty side of her artistry with “bad idea right?”. Taken from her forthcoming sophomore album “Guts” out September 8, this Wet Leg inspired track is filled with attitude and quick quips that will have you immediately obsessed. With lyrics like “Yes, I know that he’s my ex, but can’t two people reconnect? I only see him as a friend. The biggest lie I ever said”, and “And I told my friends I was asleep. But I never said where, in his sheets”,  and “I just tripped and fell into his bed”, she may have just written the most relatable song of all time. It’s for all the chaotic hopeless romantics, that like to make bad decisions, and I’m definitely one of them. The production is so brash and punchy, and it’s compliments the sassy lyrics so well.

Sigrid – The Hype

Sigrid is back with a new song following the release of her sophomore album “How To Let Go” last year. “The Hype” opens a new chapter and hears her returning to the big anthemic synth-pop production of her debut album “Sucker Punch”. Contrasting this empowering production with hard-hitting questions like “Tell me, did you ever love me?” and “Honestly, did I live up to the hype?” she will have you simultaneously crying and sweating on the dance floor.

Fred again.. feat. Obongjayar – adore u

Alright Australia, Fred again.. has just delivered your summer anthem. “adore u” hears the British producer teaming up with Obongjayar for a slow building summer-soaked banger. With house inspired production, bouncy keys and soulful vocals you will be hypnotised immediately. The song builds to this brief rhythmic breakdown before returning to the infectious refrain. Another smash from Fred again..

Paige – Aquarian

New Zealand artist Paige is finally releasing her debut album “King Clown” on October 13, and to celebrate the announcement she’s dropped one of her slinkiest pop tracks yet. “Aquarian” shows a different side to her artistry with a bouncy upbeat pop production that will have you ready to dance along with her. Questioning what it would be like to be an Aquarian, she tries to look through someone else’s eyes as she tries to imagine it. And while she may not actually still know what it would be truly like, she does have a little banger out of it.

Bonnie Mckee – Hot City

After having her masters locked away by her previous label, Bonnie Mckee is finally taking us back to 2013 and serving us the euphoric pop she had ready for us to obsess over. “Hot City” is a playful pop song that is all about escapism. “Come on, let’s go to Hot City” she proclaims as she describes the natural fiery chemistry she feels with someone over a synth-laden production. The feel-good and nostalgic track is pure pop silliness, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

BIRDEE 王煒  – Best Mistake I Never Made

BIRDEE 王煒 is introducing herself to the world with pure pop bangers only. “Best Mistake I Never Made” is the next release from the rising star, and it’s infectiously laden chorus will live rent free in your mind with its punchy production and powerful vocals. Beginning with a brooding and moody production during the verses she then transforms the chorus with these hard hitting synths that will immediately command your attention as she proclaims “you were the best mistake I never made”.

COBRAH – MANIC

COBRAH is not playing games. Following the recent release of “SUCK”, the Swedish artist has dropped the chaotic pop track “MANIC”, and it’s one that will quickly get stuck in your head. “I’m not dramatic, I just get a little manic. One, two, three and here comes panic” she proclaims in the bouncy refrain. If you’re a hyper-pop fan and haven’t discovered COBRAH yet, then it’s about time you get yourself acquainted because she’s coming for blood with this perfect new music.
