Troye Sivan – Got Me Started
Troye Sivan returned earlier this year with “Rush” and consequently broke the internet with its infectious hook and vivid accompanying music video which has now earned him three ARIA Award nominations. And now he’s ready to continue the hype ahead of his third studio album “Something To Give You” out October 13 by delivering a brand new single.
“Got Me Started” is another slice of pop perfection that hears him interpolating a sample of Bag Raiders’ 2011 hit “Shooting Stars” to give you a hook that is never leaving your head. The freeing track is all about being infatuated by someone and wanting to get to know them. “You just got me started. And I don’t think I can stop it. And I don’t wanna go home alone, alright?” he passionately sings. It sonically fits somewhere between the storytelling and soft vocals of “Blue Neighbourhood” with the confidence of “Rush”, making it a must listen.
Jean Dawson feat. SZA – NO SZNS
Rising Californian bedroom pop artist Jean Dawson is introducing himself to the world with a growing discography that has seen him collaborate with the likes of A$AP Rocky, Earl Sweatshirt and Mac DeMarco. And now he’s teamed up with SZA on a psychedelic infused pop track that intertwines guitars, distortion and smooth harmonies. “NO SZNS” is an impressive track that immediately captures your attention with Jean’s star power and unique sound, along with SZA’s star power that is ushered in with the beautiful lyric, “Still get a rush when I think of you in summertime”. Sonically this song reminds me of early Raury and has this really warm texture to it that will have you pressing replay while listening in a secluded place.
Bella Poarch feat. Lauv – Crush
Following the release of her “Dolls” EP last year, Bella Poarch has returned and is entering a new chapter with a slick pop sound. “Crush” hears her teaming up with global pop star Lauv and delivering an inescapable hook that will live rent free in your mind. The playful pop song has so many different layers to it which makes it a really interesting listen. From the smooth melodies, to the crushing sound of a soda can, to the slick synths that have a 80’s sensibility about them, they’ve made the song feel really big and exciting. It’s intoxicating from start to finish, and one listen just won’t be enough. A dream pairing.
Oliver Cronin feat. Lil Xxel – I Need You
Oliver Cronin is bringing back the tropical-pop sound of 2016 with his catchy new single “I Need You” with rising US rapper Lil Xxel. Reminiscent of “Purpose” era Justin Bieber, this track transports you into a freeing state-of-mind with it’s production while contrasting it with honest lyricism. Reflecting on heartbreak, he explores the regret he has by letting something come between them, and in-turn becomes a “I want you back” sort of song. “You all on my mind all the time. Nobody told you how many times I been trying to say I need you right by my side” he sings during the hook. From the very first listen you’ll find yourself ready to dance along and scream it out loud when he hits the road later this year with Nessa Barrett.
Landon Barker – Friends With Your Ex
Landon Barker is stepping into the alt-rock and pop-punk infused lane of his father Travis Barker, with the release of his debut single “Friends With Your Ex”, which is already notably turning some heads. The slightly savage, but completely honest track hears him dishing the piping hot tea surrounding him dating Charli D’Amelio. “I was friends with your ex. You were with him when we met. Guеss he hasn’t found out yet. But I know he’s gonna kill mе when he sees me with you” he sings. Contrasting these honest lyrics with a playful and punchy alt-rock production, he impresses with a sound that is reminiscent of JXDN, Machine Gun Kelly and recent Avril Lavigne. This is only the first taste of what is to come from Landon, and he’s just proved himself to be one-to-watch.
