Spacey Jane – One Bad Day
Following a two year run with their sophomore album “Here Comes Everybody”, West Australian indie-rock favourites Spacey Jane are officially closing the chapter with one final new song. “One Bad Day” comes as a thank you to fans, and bookends the end of “Here Comes Everybody” and serves as a standalone prelude to the beginning of more new music to come with album number three on the horizon. The breezy sun-soaked track feels like the perfect middle-of-summer anthem with its upbeat production style. The guitars and drums have this steady rhythm which is complemented by hopeful lyrics that acknowledge pain, and knowing that things will get better, while having a little bit of pessimism in the mix. “This is the last time I feel like this, or at least I hope it is” lead singer Caleb Harper honestly sings.
Jennifer Lopez – Can’t Get Enough
Jennifer Lopez (aka the queen) is back and not only is she dropping her first album in almost a decade next month, but she’s also serving us the sequel to her groundbreaking record. “This Is Me… Now” will be released on February 16, along with the visual film “This Is Me… Now: A Love Story” on Prime Video, and to get us excited for it she has dropped the infectious lead single. “Can’t Get Enough” immediately feels like a classic Jennifer Lopez track. It has a similar energy to songs like “Jenny From The Block” and “Get Right”, and hits you with this big hook that will quickly get stuck in your head. There’s a 90’s influenced seductive beat layered with smooth pop melodies that trickles through. Describing the intoxicating feeling of falling in love, she sings in the pre-chorus; “When it feels right nothing else matters. Is this real life? Too good to be true”. This is a really strong return for JLO, and hints towards a return to her early sound for this upcoming record. And not to mention, the accompanying music video is brilliantly executed.
Michael Marcagi – Scared To Start
In a few short weeks Michael Marcagi has cemented himself as one of the most exciting newcomers. On December 11 the Ohio based singer-songwriter shared his debut single “The Other Side”, which has already received over 4 million streams on Spotify alone. Now he’s ready to show listeners more of his artistry with his impressive follow up single “Scared To Start”. For fans of Noah Kahan and Zach Bryan, this track follows a similar sonic to “The Other Side” with a guitar led production complemented by the tambourine which brings a lively and warm heart to the forefront. Celebrating the mindset of people who look forward without dwelling on the uncertainties of life, he writes from a place of pure honesty and catharsis. “Let’s lay in the dead grass, stare at the stars. Run away, and live out of cars and bars” he romantically sings.
“Scared To Start” quickly proves that he’s not going to be a one-hit-wonder with one stellar song in “The Other Side”. Instead Michael Marcagi is the real deal, and you are going to be hearing a lot more of him everywhere you go very soon.

K.FLAY – Carsick
Last year K.FLAY released her impressive fifth studio album “MONO” which played commentary to her going completely and suddenly deaf in her right ear. It was an honest, vulnerable, and playful body of work that found a sense of hope in a time of confusion. On the physical version of the album K.FLAY hid a song she had been performing live on her North American tour called “Carsick”. And now that song is finally seeing the light of day on streaming services, and it’s a bonafide banger. The dark and pulsating track finds this sonical gut that is very reminiscent of “Every Where Is Some Where” and some of her more experimental work. “After all the stops and starts, crashes and carnage, I’m just carsick” she sings.
Australian fans can look forward to seeing her performing it live next month when she returns to our shores for Party In The Paddock, and a run of headline shows.
