Macklemore – HIND’S HALL
If there’s only one new song you listen to this week, make it Macklemore’s pro-Palestine anthem “HIND’S HALL”. Calling out the music industry for being quiet and complicit, for politicians failing the innocent, for Drake and Kendrick beefing over themselves in a time where their words could be so powerful, to the students actually trying to make a difference, Macklemore doesn’t hold back and makes sure his message is clear – “block the barricade until Palestine is free”.
Charli XCX – 360
Charli XCX is preparing the release of her sixth studio album “Brat” on June 6, and she’s just dropped another earworm banger for you to obsess over. “360” is an undeniable pop anthem that explodes with classic Charli attitude. Name-checking Julia Fox in the song she sings “I’m everywhere, I’m so Julia”. The accompanying music video is also high-level iconic with Julia Fox, Rachel Sennott, Hari Nef, Gabbriette, Alex Consani, and Emma Chamberlain all guest starring while they search for the next “internet hot girl”.
Megan Thee Stallion – BOA
Megan Thee Stallion has always been and will forever be THAT girl. Her new single “BOA” comes ahead of her debut headline arena tour, and is the third in her snake-themed singles. Sampling Gwen Stefani’s 2004 classic “What You Waiting For” she serves some epic one-liners as she makes sure you know “these bitches only hot on..” While Gwens “Tick-tock” sample is playing. This is top tier Megan, and you better get ready to have it on-repeat. Here are some of my favourite liners from the track;
– “Don’t gotta edit, check the Getty”
– “Doin’ shit for TikTok, bitch I’m really hip-hop. They all know my shit hot, ain’t listen when your shit drop”
– “I don’t want no minute-man, fuck me for some hours”
– “Post a picture, bitches call me mother, now who’s sonic’ who?”
Dua Lipa – Anything For Love
While “Anything For Love” might not technically be a single, it is certainly a must listen track from Dua Lipa’s third studio album “Radical Optimism”. It’s one of the album’s most surprising listens which captivates you with its unusual structure that feels a little left-field for the global pop-star. Opening with a voice-memo of her talking with her co-writers, you hear her sitting down to sing over the simple piano chords for the first verse and chorus before surprising you with a floor-thumping synth led beat which switches the song up again before it’s abrupt 2:21 ending. Someone please give us a 4 minute version of this song STAT.
Gracie Abrams – Risk
Gracie Abrams is preparing for the release of her highly anticipated sophomore album “The Secret Of Us” out June 21, and the lead single showcases a playful direction for the artist. “Risk” feels like a return to her roots with a heavy Taylor Swift and Lorde influence shining through. It’s an infectiously catchy track that grows on you with every listen and has this pulsating energy that takes over. It’s all about not knowing if someone is into you, but still taking that jump and hoping for the best. “Heard the risk is drowning, but I’m gonna take it” she sings.
Role Model – Deeply Still In Love
With over 75 million combined views of content in the lead up to the release of his new single “Deeply Still In Love”, Role Model had everyone excited to hear this new direction. Taken from his forthcoming sophomore album “Kansas Anymore” out July 19, this track impresses with its strong lyricism, and festival ready singalong hook. But the best verse is verse 2 where he sings, “Well, I heard you might’ve found somebody new. I still can’t swallow it, but I think I’m proud of you. And I went out tonight. Shit don’t feel the same. I try and bury it ’til I called her by your name”. There’s an honest vulnerability at the core of this song that is contrasted by the upbeat production, which immediately draws you in.
Meghan Trainor – To The Moon
Meghan Trainor is absolutely SERVING in her new single “To The Moon”. Taken from her forthcoming sixth studio album “Timeless” out June 7, this track is reminiscent of the playful production behind her 2020 record “TREAT MYSELF” (cc the bonafide banger “Wave”). It’s a song that begins with the swing-pop aesthetic you expect from her before intertwining a floor-thumping beat that comes out of nowhere and brings a seductive confidence. One listen simply won’t be enough and you’ll find yourself adding this song to all of your playlists so you can hear it over and over again.
Charlie Pittman – house in the suburbs
Charlie Pittman is preparing for the release of his debut EP “nothing is forever” out June 20. Following the release of recent single “i don’t wanna be here”, he is backing it up with the equally anthemic “house in the suburbs”. Reminiscent of The Band CAMINO and Jeremy Zucker, this track intertwines pop and rock influences with strong songwriting that immediately captivates the listener. It’s a song for the hopeless romantics (like myself) who over romanticise relationships and think they are living in a movie (also me). “Maybe it’s fine, yeah, it’s cool. If you only stay the night or your whole damn life. You decide what you wanna do” he sings as he ponders the beginning of something new. This is a second very strong taste of what’s to come from Charlie Pittman.
