BLEACHED PICKS OF THE WEEK: Omar Apollo, Chris Lanzon, Bebe Rexha, Ayesha Madon, Miss Kaninna

Omar Apollo – Done With You

With his sophomore studio album “God Said No” finally in the world, Omar Apollo is ready to have you absolutely obsessed with the incredible songwriting and production showcased across the fourteen tracks. Following lead singles “Spite”, “Dispose Of Me” and “Less Of You”, he’s heralded the record with another flawless pop song. “Done With You” is a smooth track that will have you immediately captivated by the crooning tone of his vocals with an expansive production that incorporates sweeping strings and warm brass that make this song so delicious upon your ears. Other standouts on the album include “Be Careful With Me”, “Drifting”, “Life’s Unfair” and “How”.

Chris Lanzon – Technicolo(u)r

Chris Lanzon has just shared the third single from his forthcoming EP “Angel Litany”, and it’s also subsequently my favourite release of his to-date. The stunning alternative track is an exploration of infatuation and falling in love, and captures some of the most intimate and sincere moments through his lyrical delivery that will have your heart feeling intensely warm even if you’re not currently experiencing the same emotions. “I want to know your creases, just like I know my hands” he sings before adding “I want to see things like you”. Gradually building, the cinematic soundscape is organic and intertwines soothing harmonies with piano, guitar, strings and moody percussion. And additionally his vocal delivery is also so comforting, with the iteration of the line “angel numbers, technicolour” sending chills down your body.

Bebe Rexha – I’m The Drama

“I’m the drama, I’m the face, I make heads turn in this place” Bebe Rexha sings during the floor-filling chorus that will have you wanting to immerse yourself in the middle of a gay club. Following the release of the underrated bop “Chase it (Mmmm Da Da Da)” in May, she’s come in hot with a new song in the most Bebe fashion. There’s no denying that “I’m The Drama” is a hit waiting to be discovered. It’s a fun track that doesn’t have an agenda further than to have you dance, and that it does. On the very first listen she will captivate you with the floor-filling beat that knows exactly when to come in and out of hitting hard.

Ayesha Madon – Blame Me

Following the release of “Eulogy” at the end of March, Ayesha Madon has given us an impressively strong second single that will hit you right in the feels. “Blame Me” is a mid-tempo pop track that is sonically reminiscent of artists like Griff and Gracie Abrams. Emotionally driven, this track is all about the complexities of having a crush on a friend. It’s something you know you shouldn’t have, but you also can’t stop it from happening. “2am on a park bench talking about all the dumb shit I said. Every time you mention a girl I try to act cool because I’m your friend” she sings before later questioning “Can you blame me?”. Her tender vocal tone amplifies the honesty in her lyrics so perfectly and has you standing right next to her while you watch the situation play out.

Miss Kaninna – Push Up

Miss Kaninna is the moment! Following the energetically fuelled debut singles “Blak Britney” and “Pinnacle Bitch” last year, her new single “Push Up” brings a melodic perspective to her growing soundscape. Infusing mid-tempo RNB with afro-beats, this track hears her showcasing her pure vocal talent, and I promise you that you’ll be obsessed on the first listen. Sensually charged, she explains a connection with someone that makes her want to lower her guard. “Got me so high, my legs in the cloud” she sings before confessing “cause it’s obvious that you want me. But I don’t give it up just to nobody”. This is a song that is pure fire from an artist who is truly one of the most exciting Australian newcomers. So if you’re not across Miss Kaninna as of yet, then it’s time to get acquainted.
