BLEACHED PICKS OF THE WEEK: Kesha, Childish Gambino, Salty, The Rions

Kesha – Joyride

Sound the alarm, Kesha is back! “Joyride” is a carefree electronic-pop anthem that hears her reclaiming her independence and entering a new era that pays nod to her playful roots. This is a song that is going to please the hearts of old-school Kesha fans with its charismatic heart that is a little chaotic, unhinged, and unfiltered. The sexual innuendo filled track doesn’t hide it’s meaning and I’m SO here for it. “Rev my engine ’til you make it purr. Keep it kinky, but I come first. Beep-beep, bitch, I’m outside. Get in, loser, for the joyride” she sings. The production is wild, and that’s what pulls you in. It’s a direct punch in the face which lifts back the curtain to the biggest party on earth, and Kesha is once again the dance commander.

Childish Gambino – Lithonia

Childish Gambino is a visionary, and he’s ready to welcome you into the new world and era he has dreamt up. The “final” Childish Gambino record “Bando Stone & The New World” will drop July 19, and to tease what’s to come he’s shared the lead single “Lithonia”. The emotionally charged track incorporates pop and rock influences that brings this really explosive and uplifting energy while lyrically being quite pessimistic. Introducing the character Cody LaRae he switches between first person and third person commentary with a dialogue about being let down, and dreams not coming true. “Cody LaRae. He had a break. He’s findin’ out that nobody gives a fuck. I did my job. I paid my dues. Love is for fools. Cause nobody gives a fuck” he sings. If this track is any hint of what the record is going to be like, then maybe we have an album of the year contender on our hands.

Salty – See U In 3

The future of Australian pop is looking bright, and Salty is one of the rising newcomers who is bringing her shiny new perspective. “See U In 3” is a bold pop track produced by Cyrus that intertwines this gritty attitude with a polished package that will have you pressing replay immediately. The seductive track has this cheeky playfulness that has become a signature in her music. It’s accompanied by a flawless choreographed music video that takes you back to the days of Video Hits and RAGE in the mid 2000’s. It’s pop perfection and we are obsessed.

The Rions – Physical Medicine

Following the catchy track “Sweet Cocoon” and a massive sold-out Australian tour, The Rions have announced their new EP “Happiness in A Place It Shouldn’t Be” will be released on September 27. They’ve also dropped the infectious lovesick new single “Physical Medicine”, which hears them stepping into a bold and elevated new sound. Citing similarities to early The 1975, this track has a shiny perspective which builds upon the sonic that their fans have come to love and know them for.  It’s a bit more internationally inclined and impresses with its smooth hook and experimentally charged lyrical structure.
