The fact that it’s 2025 and Alessia Cara’s is only just touring Australia now for the first time is low-key a little wild to me. The tour is in support of her fourth studio album “Love & Hyperbole”, and with a 27 track setlist, she covers the majority of the record as well as the adored hits and fan favourites from her lengthy career (minus two big ones… stay tuned). With a big red curtain draped across the back of the stage, Alessia walks out onto the Roundhouse stage to a big cheer from the excited Sydney crowd, who are ready to go on the musical journey with her.
Starting with “Go Outside!”, “Dead Man”, “Left Alone”, “Run Run” and “Voice In My Head”, the singalongs began mid-tempo from the crowd, but they were intently listening. Her accompanying band are strong and allow Alessia to riff over them and bring this almost jazz club atmosphere to the show.
“Drive” gets an early big reaction from the crowd, and then when we hit the middle of the set the big singalongs began with “Stay”, and “Wild Things” bringing a euphoric feeling. “Fire” was one of the sets peak moments for her vocals and musicianship with the band while “Growing Pains” was a clear fan favourite, before she wrapped it all up with “Scars To Your Beautiful” and “Here”.
Notably leaving “How Far I’ll Go” and “I’m Yours” off from the setlist, some fans left disappointed after waiting what felt like a lifetime and it being quite heavy on the new material, as you do want the first time to be a celebration of the career after it’s been that long. But she did deliver a strong set that showcased why she’s a pure talent that will keep connecting with listeners for years to come.
